Arbuscular mycorrhiza development (Gutjahr)

FOR AN UPDATED RESEARCH SUMMARY PLEASE VISIT OUR NEW WEBSITE AT TUM.

Plants interact with myriads of microorganisms, with beneficial and detrimental effects on their fitness and performance. We investigate the interaction of plants with beneficial, nutrient-delivering arbuscular mycorrhiza fungi and filamentous pathogens using state of the art genetic, molecular, cell biological and biochemical methods and address the following overarching questions:

  • Which molecular mechanisms underly accommodation of arbuscular mycorrhiza fungi in plant roots?
  • How does the plant adjust arbuscular mycorrhiza development with its developmental and physiological state under dynamically changing environmental conditions?
  • Are there overlaps and similarities between accommodation of symbiotic and pathogenic filamentous microbes?
  • Which is the genetic basis for positive performance responses to arbuscular mycorrhiza?
